Born in Athens, Greece in 1966.
EDUCATION
2000-2003 PD, Doctorate in Fine Art, University of East London, U.K.

1989-1994 BA, First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art, Aristotelian University,Thessaloniki, Greece.
1984-1988 BA in Printing and Graphic Arts, University of Western Athens, Greece.
Yiannis Christakos is an academic and a self-employed practicing artist. He holds a Doctorate in Fine Arts.
He holds a BA in Printing and Graphic Arts, University of Western Athens as well as a BA in Fine Arts, “Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki”, Greece. From 1997 till 2003 he moved to London to continue his postgraduate studies with a Greek State Scholarship. He has completed an MA in Fine Arts “University of East London U.E.L” U.K. and has been awarded a Doctorate in Fine Arts from the same University. Between 2000 and 2002 he gave tutorials-seminars at the University of East London. He has been lecturing as an adjunct lecturer at the School of Visual Arts at the University of Ioannina between 2003 and 2005 and at the Pedagogical Department of The School of Human Studies, at the University of Thessaly between 2007 and 2014. From 2004 till 2016 he was lecturing at the School of Art Studies at the Technological University of Athens (TEI). From 2009 till 2014 he was giving seminars at The Wayne State College, Nebraska State College, U.S.A. within the framework of a study abroad program running in Greece.
Since 2020 is a member of the International Artist/Academic group Mnemosyne of Harvard (Greek Desk).
Since 2017 he is a member of teaching staff at the Department of Early Childhood Education of the University of Ioannina. Since 2022 he has been appointed Associate Professor in the same department.
He has exhibited in 17 solo exhibitions in Greece and abroad and has been involved in more than 100 group shows globally. His work can be found in a number of public and private collections in Greece, UK, Germany, USA, Switzerland, Sweden and Cyprus. He has publications on Art and Art and Pedagogic issues.
He is a founding member of the Laboratory of Arts and Didactic Applications of The Department of Early Childhood Education of the University of Ioannina (https://arts.ecedu.uoi.gr/
His research interests focus on Painting, Visual Practice and Mapping as a means of intercultural education, Visual Arts Teaching with emphasis on the teaching methodology of Visual Arts in early school age, Art as a social means of expression (e.g. Refugee – Immigration issue), multimedia installations
